CORNER PVC RENDER BEAD WITH MESH 2.5m

A corner bead with mesh gives an insulated or rendered wall a straight, hard-wearing corner. This one is the Atlas PVC corner profile: a white PVC angle, 2.5 m long, with a 10 cm fibreglass mesh wing welded along each side. You bed it into the base-coat adhesive on external corners and window or door reveals, and the render finishes against a clean arris.

Seven Reasons to Choose This Profile

• Welded, not glued. The mesh is joined to the PVC by high-frequency welding, which Atlas describes as more durable than older joints such as gluing.
• A 10 cm wing on both sides. On a corner bead with mesh the fibreglass reinforces the strip of wall along the edge, not just the nose of the corner.
• Mesh protected against alkali. The wing is acrylic-bathed, so it holds up inside the cement-based adhesive it is bedded in.

What a Corner Bead with Mesh Does on a Façade

Corners and reveals are the parts of a façade that take knocks while the building is in use. The maker fixes its corner profiles on exactly these edges — door and window reveals and the corners of the building — so that an impact is absorbed by the flexible PVC instead of cracking the render back to the insulation. The bead also sets the line of the corner: the render is finished against its nose, which keeps the arris straight from the plinth to the eaves.

The mesh wings do the second job, and they are what a corner bead with mesh adds over a plain angle. Bedded in the same adhesive as the reinforcing mesh of the wall, they tie the corner into the base coat over a 10 cm strip on each face.

How Many Corner Beads a Corner Takes

Each corner bead with mesh is 2.5 m long, so a corner takes its height divided by 2.5, rounded up:

• a 5.0 m corner takes two beads;
• a 6.0 m corner takes three, the last one cut down;
• a full Atlas carton of 50 pieces covers 125 running metres of edge.

Count every reveal edge separately from the building corners: the two sides of a window are two runs of their own.

Fitting the Corner Bead in an EWI Build-Up

The maker sets out one sequence for its finishing profiles, and this bead follows it:

1. Fit the bead after the insulation boards are fixed, before or during the base coat.
2. Spread the mesh-embedding adhesive along the edge. Atlas names Atlas Hoter U grey adhesive and Atlas Roker U adhesive for wool and EPS among the adhesives for this step.
3. Set the bead against the edge and press its mesh into the fresh adhesive until the mesh no longer shows.
4. When the adhesive has dried, apply the base coat over the whole façade. The reinforcing mesh of the wall, such as the Atlas 150 g/m² fibreglass mesh, should fully cover the mesh of the bead.
5. Cut the bead to length with shears for PVC beads. Where two sections meet at right angles, cut both ends at less than 45° and fill the joint with silicone filler.

Corners, Reveal Heads and Curved Edges

The horizontal head of a window or door is a different job: water running down the wall has to drip off rather than follow the edge, and Atlas assigns that edge to a drip profile, not to a plain angle. Painting, Cleaning and Storing the Beads

The profiles can be painted with acrylic or silicone façade paints, so the visible arris can take the colour of the wall in Atlas Salta silicone masonry paint. Do not clean them with agents containing chloride.

Keep the lengths flat and protected from bending in transport and storage, in a dry, heated room above +5 °C. Kept that way, the beads last 18 months from the production date printed on the pack.
