Atlas Atut 25kg Grey, C1T Adhesive for Tiles, Indoor and Outdoor

Atlas Atut is a C1T cement-based adhesive for tiles in a 25 kg bag, made for everyday tiling on standard walls and floors. It fixes glazed wall tiles, terracotta, porcelain, clinker and ceramic mosaic up to 0.1 m² (long side up to 40 cm), indoors and outside, in a bed of 2 to 10 mm, and it holds wall tiles in place so you can tile from the top down. It sits in the shop's tile adhesives range.

Atlas Atut at a Glance

• Class C1T. A normally setting cement adhesive (C1) with reduced slip (T), for walls and floors, indoors and outdoors (EN 12004, Declaration of Performance 180/1/CPR).
• Bond declared at 0.5 N/mm² or more at the start, after heat ageing, after soaking in water and after freeze-thaw cycles.
• Bed of 2 to 10 mm. Thin coat even on an uneven substrate, and it can level mineral surfaces too.
• Open time of at least 20 minutes, with about 10 minutes to adjust each tile.
• Walk on and grout after about 24 hours; full foot traffic after about 3 days.
• Reaction to fire A1 / A1fl.

For concrete or cement tiles, for tiles larger than 0.1 m², or for heavy traffic, choose another adhesive from the same range.

Substrates and How to Prepare Them

Atlas Atut goes onto standard mineral substrates: concrete, cement and anhydrite screeds, cement and cement-lime plasters, gypsum plaster in dry rooms, and aerated concrete, silicate block, brick and gypsum block walls.

• Stable and clean. The substrate must be load-bearing, seasoned and free of dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax and old paint. Treat algae or mould with Atlas Mykos Plus.
• Even. The bed is at most 10 mm, so level bigger dips first, for example with Atlas ZW 330 or a screed such as Atlas SMS 30.
• Primed when needed. Very absorbent or patchy surfaces take Atlas Grunt NKP (undiluted) or Atlas Uni-Grunt Ultra; low-absorbency surfaces take a bonding primer such as Atlas Ultragrunt.

Before tiling, cement screeds need at least 12 MPa, 28 days of seasoning and under 4 % moisture; Atlas cement plasters need 3 days per centimetre, other cement plasters 7 days per centimetre; gypsum plaster needs more than 4 MPa and, in a wet room, a waterproof coat first. Concrete floors need at least 3 months, a clean surface and a coat of Atlas Ultragrunt. Brick and block walls get a two-coat render left rough. On weak substrates, fix one tile and check its bond after 48 hours.

Mixing and Fixing the Tiles

1. Mix. Pour the bag of Atlas Atut into 5.25 to 6 litres of clean water and mix with a slow-speed drill and paddle until smooth. Leave it 5 minutes, then mix again. Use it within about 4 hours and stir it again every hour.
2. Spread. Rub a thin coat into the substrate, then add a thicker coat and comb it straight away with a notched trowel, in one direction where you can (upright on walls).
3. Full contact on floors and outside. There the tile must sit fully in the adhesive, so spread adhesive on the back of the tile as well.
4. Lay. Press each tile in within about 20 minutes, with at least two thirds of its back in contact, and clean squeezed-out adhesive from the joints as you go. You can still slide a tile for up to 10 minutes.
5. Do not soak the tiles, and allow for any bow in the tile when setting the bed depth.

To check the open time, press your fingers onto the spread adhesive: if adhesive stays on them, tiles can still go on; if not, scrape it off and spread fresh. For natural stone, fix one tile with 60 % contact and look at it after 2 to 3 days: no shade difference means the adhesive suits that stone.

How Many Bags to Order

Atlas's average figures for an even substrate, with what one 25 kg bag of Atlas Atut covers worked out from them. One bag covers about 9 m² of 30 x 30 floor tiles:

An uneven substrate and back-buttering both use more, so round up. An 8 x 8 mm notched trowel suits the floor tiles in the last row.

Grouting and Use

• Grouting: after about 24 hours, with grout from the grouts and silicones range; fill movement joints, wall corners and joints at baths and basins with sanitary silicone.
• Loads: foot traffic after about 24 hours, full load after about 3 days (times at about 23 °C and 55 % humidity).
• Temperature: work between +5 °C and +25 °C.

Wash tools with clean water straight after use; set residue comes off with Atlas Szop. A bag keeps for 12 months from the production date printed on it.
