Description
Atlas Bonder+ is a gypsum-based plasterboard adhesive for fixing plasterboard straight onto brick, block, concrete and aerated concrete walls indoors. It is a dry mix in 25 kg paper bags: you add water, mix, apply it to the back of the board and press the board onto the wall. The adhesive is reinforced with fibres and stays workable long enough to line the boards up, with up to 20 minutes to adjust each one after it goes on the wall.

How Far a Bag Goes
For this plasterboard adhesive Atlas gives an average of 2.5 to 5.0 kg per square metre of plasterboard and 1.0 to 1.5 kg per square metre of plaster blocks. How much you use depends on how even the wall is and on the method used to glue the boards.

Before You Start: the Wall
The wall has to be load-bearing and stable, dry, and clean of dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax and old paint or release agents. New concrete needs about 28 days to dry at around 20 °C and 55 % humidity, longer in colder or damper conditions.
- Very absorbent or patchy walls — prime first, for example with Atlas NKP primer used straight from the tub or Atlas Uni-Grunt Ultra.
- Low-absorbency walls or coatings that spoil adhesion — use an adhesion primer such as Atlas Ultragrunt.
- Steel — any steel part that will touch the adhesive must be protected against corrosion first.
How to Fix Plasterboard with Atlas Bonder+
The method below follows the Atlas data sheet for this plasterboard adhesive, step by step.
- Pour the powder into a clean container with the water (about 11.5 litres for a full bag) and mix by hand or with a slow-speed mixer and plaster paddle until there are no lumps. Old set plaster in the bucket shortens the setting time, so start clean.
- Lay the board face down on the floor.
- Flat walls (unevenness up to 5 mm): spread the adhesive over the back of the board with a notched trowel, teeth 10 to 12 mm.
- Uneven walls (over 5 mm): put the adhesive on in dabs about 10 cm across, roughly 30 cm apart, plus a few extra dabs along the edges of the board. This is the method the UK trade calls dot and dab. Where the wall is badly out, fix strips of plasterboard to it first.
- Lift the board, press it onto the wall and line it up. You have about 20 minutes to correct it; moving it later weakens the bond and can make the board come away.
- Leave a gap of about 1.5 cm between the board and the walls, floor and ceiling around it.
- While the adhesive dries, ventilate the room and keep draughts and direct sun off the wall. Wash tools in clean water straight after use.
For plaster blocks, spread the adhesive along the whole edge of the block in the groove, set the next block and press until the excess squeezes out, then take that off with a trowel. Here the adhesive layer must stay at 5 mm or less, and each buttered block should go into place within about 10 minutes.
Where Not to Use It
- Ceilings. Atlas says not to bond plasterboard to ceilings with this adhesive. A ceiling needs a supporting structure, such as CD60 ceiling profiles from the drylining range.
- Walls exposed to direct moisture. It is a gypsum plasterboard adhesive for interior walls and does not go on substrates that get wet.
- Thicker than 30 mm. For deeper hollows, pack the wall out with plasterboard strips rather than building up adhesive.
After the Boards Are Up
Once the plasterboard adhesive has set, the joints are taped and filled. Renders World stocks both for that stage:
