Description
The Atlas GTA 5kg tub holds the same extra-white polymer finish as the trade-size 18 kg tub, in a pack sized for a repair, a single ceiling or a run of plasterboard joints. Open it, stir it and it is ready: it tapes joints, fills shallow dents up to 3 mm and gives a smooth, white skim indoors. Five kilograms skims about 5 m² once, or tapes about 10 m of joint.
When Atlas GTA 5kg Is the Right Size
Coverage is the simplest way to choose. Atlas puts consumption at about 1.0 kg per m² for every coat and about 0.5 kg per metre of taped joint. That gives:
- Atlas GTA 5kg — about 5 m² per coat, or about 10 m of joint: a patched wall, a box-in, a small room's joints.
- 18 kg tub — about 18 m² per coat, or about 36 m of joint: whole rooms and full skims.
A two-coat skim doubles the amount, so a 2.5 m² patch twice over uses about one 5 kg tub.
Why It Suits Small Jobs
- Nothing to mix. It is a ready mass of resin binders and fine white mineral fillers — no powder, no water to measure.
- One product for tape and finish. Atlas classes it as a dual-purpose joint compound, so the same tub beds the tape, covers the screw heads and skims the board.
- Smooth on the first pass. The fine white fillers leave a surface that needs little correction before sanding.
- A clean finish indoors. Once hard, it can be misted and rubbed smooth with a sponge float instead of dry sanding.

Using It, Step by Step
- Make sure the wall is dry, sound and free of dust, grease and loose paint. Prime a very absorbent surface with Atlas Uni-Grunt; other options are in primers.
- Stir the mass until even. Liquid on the top after storage is normal.
- For joints, fill the gap, bed the tape without folds and cover it thinly.
- Apply the skim with a stainless steel trowel or a roller of 11 mm pile or longer, no more than 3 mm thick. Trowels and spatulas are in skimming blades and spatulas.
- Lay the next coat once the first turns dull and slightly damp, about two hours at 20 °C.
- Sand with 150–220 grit when fully dry, dust off and prime before painting.
Keep the room between +5 °C and +25 °C while you work with Atlas GTA 5kg. If you are skimming a large area by roller in one go, compare Atlas GO! 25 kg bucket.
Standards
Atlas GTA meets EN 15824:2017 and EN 13963 (type 3A joint compound), with Declaration of Performance No. 175/2/CPR and fire class A1. The technical sheet is shared with the 18 kg tub.

Atlas GTA 5 kg: Common Questions
Is the 5 kg tub the same as the 18 kg tub?
Yes — the same Atlas GTA polymer finish, the same figures and the same uses. Only the pack size differs.
How much will one 5 kg tub do?
About 5 m² for one coat, about 2.5 m² for two coats, or about 10 m of taped joint.
Can I keep an opened tub?
Yes, if nothing has been mixed into it. Cover the surface with foil, close the lid tight, store it between +5 °C and +35 °C and use it within 12 months of production.
Can I use it on a ceiling?
Yes — walls and ceilings indoors are both listed uses, on plasterboard, plaster or concrete.
