Description
Kalahari Noctis is one of the Fox Kalahari colours, sold here as a 1 litre tin. The paint is a pearl structural finish for interior walls: a single brushed layer, shaped while wet, that dries to look like fine grains of desert sand with a soft metallic glow and a feeling of depth. Base coats, brushes and the other decorative effects are in the Fox Dekorator collection.
What Kalahari Noctis Brings to a Wall
Under light, the structural additives in Kalahari throw small metallic reflections, so a flat wall reads as three-dimensional. How you move the brush decides the pattern the finish takes.
- A finished effect in one layer. No second coat is planned for Kalahari.
- Hard-wearing. The maker describes the finish as highly resistant in everyday use and rates it class I for wet scrub resistance under PN-EN 13300.
- Easy to clean up. Kalahari Noctis is water-based and used straight from the tin; tools rinse in clean water.

Choosing Noctis
All Kalahari tins hold the same paint, so the spread rate, times and method above apply to every colour. Fox shows each colour as a swatch rather than in words, and the swatches are painted over Initium Color, so compare the Noctis photo with the swatches of the other colours before you decide. Getting the Wall Ready for Kalahari Noctis
Kalahari needs a sound, air-dry, clean and level background. Fill holes and cracks first, then take off dust, dirt, wax, grease and coatings that are losing their grip, so the paint bonds to a clean surface.
- New cement-lime plaster — allow 3–4 weeks to season.
- New gypsum plaster — allow 2 weeks.
- Fresh concrete — allow about one month.
- Painted walls in good order — wash with water and a little detergent, then let them dry.
- Distemper and flaking layers — strip them off completely.
- Old, absorbent walls — prime, then apply the base coat.
- Mould — clean it off and treat the area before you paint.
The background under Kalahari Noctis should be close to the colour of the effect. Fox recommends Initium Color as the base, or white Initium under light shades; brush on the Noctis once the base has dried, after 3–4 hours.
Brushing and Modelling
- Stir the Noctis thoroughly; it is never thinned with water.
- Work one area of about 1 m² at a time and lay the paint on in a single layer with a brush.
- Roughly 2 minutes later, start shaping the surface with a dry, wide brush of around 14 cm with short, soft bristles, for example the 14 cm Fox brush.
- Use parallel, diagonal, circular or crossing strokes, depending on the texture you are after; you have up to 15 minutes per area.
- Wash the brushes in clean water as soon as you finish, before the paint dries on them.
The tools and the decorator's own hand shape the final look of the wall.
Where Noctis Can Go
Fox makes Kalahari Noctis for walls inside buildings and suggests it for rooms, living rooms and corridors at home as well as restaurants, conference rooms, hotel lobbies and corridors. Suitable backgrounds:
- cement and cement-lime plaster, and concrete;
- unplastered ceramic or silicate block, brick and aerated concrete;
- gypsum plaster and gypsum or polymer skims and fillers;
- plasterboard and OSB;
- paper, vinyl and glass-fibre wallpaper;
- existing acrylic, silicone or silicate paint.

FAQ
Is Noctis a different paint from the other Kalahari colours?
No. Only the colour changes; spread rate, drying times and the brush method are the same for every Kalahari tin.
How many square metres does a tin of Noctis cover?
About 8–10 m² in one layer, towards the lower figure on a porous wall.
Do I need a base coat under Noctis?
Yes. Use a base close to the effect colour, such as Initium Color base paint, and let it dry for 3–4 hours.
Should I add water?
No. Stir it and use it as it comes.
When can I use the room again?
The surface is dry after 2 hours and the room can be used after about 24 hours, at around 23 °C and 55 % humidity.
Can it go on an outside wall?
No. Kalahari is made for interior walls only.
