Description

Fox Kalahari Sol is the shade that opens the Fox list of Kalahari colours, here in a 1 litre tin. Kalahari is a pearl structural paint for indoor walls: one coat goes on with a brush, you shape it while it is wet, and once dry the wall looks like fine desert sand caught in light, with a soft metallic sheen. The rest of the Fox decorative finishes, including the base coat and the modelling brush, are in our Fox Dekorator collection.

Why Decorators Pick Kalahari Sol

  • One coat, finished. Kalahari is a single-layer effect: the finished look comes from that one layer and the modelling that follows.
  • Depth on a flat wall. Structural additives catch the light at different angles, so the surface reads as three-dimensional and shimmers like sprinkled sand.
  • A pattern that is yours. Parallel, diagonal, circular or crossed strokes of the brush each give a different texture from the same tin.
  • Tough enough for busy rooms. Scrub resistance class I to PN-EN 13300, and Fox rates the finish highly resistant in everyday use.
  • Water-based and ready to use. Open, stir and paint; brushes wash out in clean water.

Sol and the Other Kalahari Colours

Every Kalahari tin carries the same paint; only the colour changes. To judge Sol against a neighbouring shade, compare the swatch photos on each page. These are the colours Renders World stocks, all in 1 litre tins:

Fox paints its colour swatches over Initium Color, so the shade you see on a swatch assumes a base close to it.

Preparing the Wall

Before you start, repair holes and cracks so that Kalahari Sol goes onto a stable, air-dry and even background. Clean off dust, dirt, wax, grease and any old coating that would weaken the bond.

  • Fresh cement-lime plaster — leave it to season for 3–4 weeks.
  • Fresh gypsum plaster — 2 weeks.
  • New concrete — about a month.
  • Sound painted walls — wash down with water and detergent and let them dry.
  • Distemper or loose layers — remove them completely.
  • Old absorbent surfaces — prime first, then put on the base coat.
  • Mould — clean and treat the area before painting.

The base coat should be close in colour to Sol: Fox Initium Color, or white Initium for light shades. Start the Kalahari once the base has dried, after 3–4 hours.

How to Apply Fox Kalahari Sol

  1. Mix the contents of the tin well. Do not add water.
  2. Take the wall in stages of about one square metre and brush on a single layer.
  3. After roughly 2 minutes, model the surface with a dry, wide brush of about 14 cm with short, soft bristles, such as the Fox decorative brush 14 cm.
  4. Choose the stroke for the look you want; each stage stays workable for up to 15 minutes.
  5. Clean the tools in clean water straight after use, before the paint dries on them.

The final look depends on the tools and on the hand of the decorator, so try your stroke on a board first.

Rooms and Backgrounds

Kalahari Sol is for interior walls. Fox recommends it for rooms, living rooms and corridors at home, and for restaurant and conference rooms, hotel lobbies and corridors. It goes over:

  • cement and cement-lime plaster, and concrete;
  • bare ceramic or silicate blockwork, brick and aerated concrete;
  • gypsum plaster, skims and fillers, including polymer ones;
  • plasterboard and OSB;
  • paper, vinyl and glass-fibre wallpaper;
  • sound acrylic, silicone or silicate paint.

How Many Tins of Kalahari Sol

Tins of Sol Wall covered, one coat
1 about 8–10 m²
2 about 16–20 m²
3 about 24–30 m²

A porous wall sits at the lower end. Buy all the tins for one wall at the same time: Fox asks for paint from a single production batch on one surface, or for every tin to be mixed together in one container first.

  • Shelf life — 24 months from the production date printed on the tin.
  • Hygiene — holds a PZH hygienic certificate.
  • VOC — inside the 200 g/l limit for interior paints.
