Description

Fox Kalahari Vesper is the Kalahari decorative effect in the shade Fox calls Vesper, sold here in a 1 litre tin. Kalahari is a water-based structural paint for interior walls: you lay one coat with a brush, shape it while it is still wet, and the dried wall shows grains like windblown sand with a pearly, gently metallic shine. Vesper is the colour Fox itself uses for its Kalahari room photograph, and it sits with the other Fox finishes in our Fox Dekorator collection.

What Fox Kalahari Vesper Brings to a Wall

  • Texture from a single layer. There is no topcoat: the effect is complete after one pass and the modelling that follows it.
  • Light that plays across the surface. The structural grains reflect light at different angles, giving the flat wall an illusion of depth.
  • Your own pattern. Straight, slanted, round or criss-cross brush strokes each leave a different look.
  • Made to be lived with. Class I for scrub resistance and highly resistant to everyday wear, which suits hallways and corridors.
  • Quick to finish a room. Dry in about 2 hours, with the room in use again after roughly a day.

Choosing Between the Kalahari Shades

Vesper shares its formula, coverage and application with the rest of the Kalahari line — the choice between them is purely one of colour. Renders World keeps these shades in 1 litre tins:

Shade Size
Vesper (this tin) 1 l
Lapis 1 l
Sol 1 l
Sabulum 1 l
Nebula 1 l
Noster 1 l
Viridis 1 l
Marinus 1 l
Noctis 1 l
Camel 1 l

The Fox swatches are painted over Initium Color, and the wall underneath should be close in colour to the effect you are after.

Getting the Wall Ready

Fox Kalahari Vesper needs a sound background. Before it goes on, the wall should be firm, air-dry and level, with cracks and holes repaired, and free of dust, dirt, wax, grease and any old coating that would stop it bonding.

  • New cement-lime plaster — let it season for 3 to 4 weeks.
  • New gypsum plaster — give it 2 weeks.
  • Fresh concrete — wait around a month.
  • Painted walls in good condition — wash with water and a little detergent, then let them dry.
  • Distemper and flaking layers — scrape them off completely.
  • Porous old surfaces — prime, then apply the base coat.
  • Patches of mould — clean them off and protect the area first.

For the base coat, use Initium Color or another base paint near the Vesper shade, and let it dry for 3 to 4 hours.

Applying and Modelling Fox Kalahari Vesper

  1. Stir the tin thoroughly and use the paint undiluted — Kalahari is never thinned with water.
  2. Work section by section, roughly a square metre at a time, and brush a single layer onto the base.
  3. Wait around 2 minutes, then shape the surface with a dry, broad brush near 14 cm wide with short, soft hair. The Fox decorative brush 14 cm sits in the same range as the paint.
  4. Vary the direction of your strokes for the pattern you want; each section takes shape for up to a quarter of an hour.
  5. Wash brushes in clean water as soon as you finish, while the paint is still soft.

Where Kalahari Vesper Can Go

Fox Kalahari Vesper is meant for interior walls: homes (rooms, living rooms, corridors) and spaces such as restaurant or conference rooms and hotel halls and corridors. Suitable backgrounds:

  • cement and cement-lime plasters, and concrete;
  • unplastered ceramic or silicate blocks, brick and aerated concrete;
  • gypsum and polymer skims and fillers;
  • plasterboard and OSB;
  • paper, vinyl or glass-fibre wallpaper;
  • existing acrylic, silicone or silicate paint.

16–20 m² 2

Each litre of paint does somewhere between 8 and 10 m², less on a porous wall. Order the whole quantity of Fox Kalahari Vesper together: the maker asks for one production batch on any surface, or for all the tins to be combined in a single container before you start.

  • Keeps for 24 months from the date of manufacture on the tin.
  • Hygiene — the paint has a PZH hygiene certificate.

FAQ

Is Vesper a different paint from the other Kalahari colours?

No — only the shade differs. Coverage, drying times and the brush method are the same across the line.

How many layers does Vesper take?

One. Fox Kalahari Vesper is finished once that layer has been brushed on and modelled.

How many tins for a feature wall?

Allow one litre for every 8 to 10 m². A typical 20 m² wall uses two or three tins.

Do I need an undercoat?

Yes, a base paint close to the final colour. Initium Color is the Fox base made for this.

When is the wall dry?

After about 2 hours, with the room usable again after roughly 24 hours at normal room conditions.

Can it go on an outside wall?

No. Kalahari Vesper is an interior wall finish.
