Description
Fox Dekorator Black Concrete is a black concrete effect plaster for interior walls: a decorative lime plaster, ready to use, that you trowel on in two layers and polish to a raw concrete look. It is coloured black with natural pigments, contains no cement and lets the wall breathe. It comes in a 14 kg tub and sits in the Fox Dekorator range at Renders World.
Where Black Concrete Effect Plaster Fits
The maker describes it as a modern, raw lime plaster for interiors that harmonises with metal, glass and raw wood. Atlas recommends this black concrete effect plaster for:
- residential buildings;
- public buildings, including schools and nurseries;
- shops, offices, service points and shopping centres;
- transport buildings.
It is declared for internal walls, ceilings, columns and partition walls. The finish is yours to set: light trowelling gives a smooth, matt surface, while repeated, firmer polishing with the trowel brings it up to a satin sheen. The odd scattered pit or pore is part of the look of concrete.
Fox also shows the finish with a gold tape line set into it to imitate rustication joints, the pattern on the tub.
Surfaces It Goes Over
Black concrete effect plaster goes over these substrates:
- cement-lime and cement plasters;
- concrete, cast on site or precast;
- unplastered walls of ceramic or silicate blocks, brick and aerated concrete;
- gypsum plasters, skims and fillers, and polymer skims and fillers;
- plasterboard and OSB;
- acrylic paint coatings.
The wall must be load-bearing, even and seasoned until air-dry. Clean off anything that would weaken the bond — dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease and old paint residue. New work needs time to season first:
| Surface | What to do first |
|---|---|
| Gypsum, cement and cement-lime plaster | Leave at least 1 week for every cm of thickness |
| Concrete walls and ceilings | Leave at least 28 days |
| Old, well-bonded acrylic or latex paint | Prime with Fox bonding primer |
| Old distemper and other weak layers | Remove completely |
| Old absorbent surfaces | Prime, for example with Fox bonding primer |
| Mould | Clean and treat with Atlas Mykos Plus |
Atlas calls for bonding primer wherever the surface is smooth or has low absorbency, and Fox's own product page primes every surface with it before the first layer. The shop stocks it as the Fox Bonding Primer 3 kg. Seasoning times assume about 20 °C and 55 % humidity; they run longer in colder or damper conditions.
Applying and Polishing the Black Finish
- Plan and test — decide the order and method of the layers, and try the final effect on a small sample first.
- Stir — the black mix comes wet and ready; stir it to an even consistency. A little water can be added if you prefer it softer.
- First layer — apply it smooth with a stainless steel trowel, to the thickness of the grain, and let it dry completely: 12 to 24 hours, depending on the room.
- Dampen — before the second layer, wet the whole decorated area lightly with water.
- Second layer — apply the second black layer over the whole area and level it.
- Polish — as it dries, smooth it with the edge of the trowel held flat. The pores close and the surface takes on its typical smoothness. Keep the trowel blade perfectly clean throughout.
- Seal — coat the finished black concrete wall with Fox Dekorator Satyna decorative varnish or a hydrophobic varnish, such as Fox Dekorator Hydrophobic Varnish 1 l, using a soft brush or a flocked applicator in criss-cross strokes. One coat already strengthens the surface; in damp rooms use two coats of hydrophobic varnish, and a rougher finish may need more.
Wash the tools in water straight after work. The black mix may have a characteristic smell, which does not affect its quality.

Drying times assume about 23 °C and 55 % humidity; colder or damper rooms take longer. Consumption depends on the texture and absorbency of the wall, how it was prepared, the effect you are after, the hand doing the work, and the thickness and number of layers — the maker advises a trial on the real surface to check it.

FAQ
Is it real concrete?
No. It is a black decorative lime plaster that imitates concrete, coloured with natural pigments and made without cement.
Can I use it outside?
The maker declares it for interiors: internal walls, ceilings, columns and partition walls.
How much do I need?
Plan about 1.3 kg of black concrete effect plaster per square metre for each layer; the finish takes two layers. A trial on your own wall shows the real figure.
Can it go in a damp room?
Yes, with protection: in rooms with higher humidity the maker asks for two coats of hydrophobic varnish over the finished plaster, such as Fox Dekorator Hydrophobic Varnish.
Who makes it?
Atlas sp. z o.o., under its Fox Dekorator brand of decorative finishes.
