Description

This Fox Kalahari Lapis tin holds one litre of Kalahari in the colour Fox names Lapis: a decorative wall paint that looks like fine desert sand. A single coat, brushed on and then modelled, leaves a pearly glow and a shimmer of metallic grains that moves as the light changes. It is made for walls inside the home and in hotels, restaurants and conference rooms, and it comes from the Fox Dekorator range at Renders World.

Why Decorators Choose Fox Kalahari Lapis

  • One coat finishes the effect. Brush it on once and model it; there is no second layer to wait for.
  • Sand-grain depth. Structural additives catch the light, so the wall reads as three-dimensional and sparkles like sprinkled sand.
  • A soft metallic sheen when dry. The finish is pearly rather than flat, and the pattern follows your brush strokes.
  • Tough enough for living spaces. Scrub resistance class I, and the paint is highly resistant to everyday wear.
  • Water-based and ready to use. Open, stir and brush; tools rinse in clean water.
  • Room back in a day. About 2 hours to dry and about 24 hours before the room is in use again.

How to Apply Kalahari Lapis

  1. Prepare the wall. It must be stable, dry, clean and even. Wash off dust, wax and grease, and fill any cracks or gaps so the surface holds the paint evenly.
  2. Lay a base coat. Paint the wall with Fox Initium Color, so the background sits close to the finished colour. On an old, thirsty wall, prime first and then lay the base coat.
  3. Wait for the base. Start the Fox Kalahari Lapis once the base coat has dried, after 3–4 hours.
  4. Stir, do not thin. Mix the tin well and use it as it comes, without water.
  5. Work one square metre at a time. Brush on a single coat over about 1 m².
  6. Model it. After about 2 minutes, work the wet paint with a dry, wide brush of about 14 cm with short, soft bristle — parallel, diagonal, circular or crossed strokes, by the pattern you want. You have up to 15 minutes before the surface sets. Fox's decorative brush 14 cm is stocked in the same range.

Rinse brushes in clean water straight after use, before the paint dries on them.

Rooms and Surfaces

Kalahari is for interior walls. The maker recommends it for rooms, living rooms and hallways at home, and at restaurant and conference rooms, hotel lobbies and corridors. It goes over:

  • cement-lime and cement plaster, and concrete;
  • bare blockwork, brick and aerated concrete;
  • gypsum plaster, skims and fillers, including polymer ones;
  • plasterboard and OSB;
  • paper, vinyl and fibreglass wallpaper;
  • old silicate, silicone or acrylic paint.

Leave new plaster to season before painting: 3–4 weeks for cement-lime, 2 weeks for gypsum and about a month for fresh concrete. Strip old distemper and any loose coat, and clean and protect mouldy patches before you start.

How Many Tins You Need

  • Coverage — one litre of paint covers on average 8–10 m² in its single coat; a thirsty wall sits at the lower end.
  • A 20 m² feature wall — two to three tins of Fox Kalahari Lapis.
  • Larger areas — buy every tin at once and from one production batch, or pour the paint from all tins into one container and mix, so the whole wall carries one shade.

Storage and Safety

  • Shelf life — 24 months from the production date printed on the tin.
  • Storage and transport — as shown on the tin and in the Fox safety data sheet.
  • Indoor air — the paint holds a PZH hygienic attest and stays below the 200 g/l VOC limit for interior paints.

FAQ

Does Kalahari Lapis need a second coat?

No. Fox Kalahari Lapis is a one-coat paint: you brush it on once and model it while it is wet.

What goes under it?

A base coat close to the finished shade. Fox's choice is Initium Color, the base its swatches are made on.

How far does a 1 litre tin go?

Each tin of paint covers on average 8–10 m² of wall. Plan two to three tins for a 20 m² wall, and more on a very absorbent surface.

How long before the room can be used?

The paint dries in 2 hours, and the room is ready after around 24 hours at about 23 °C. A cold or humid room takes longer.

Can I use it outside or on a ceiling?

No. Fox makes Kalahari for the walls of a room indoors, so keep it to interior walls.

Will two tins match?

Tins from one production batch match. If yours carry different dates, mix them together in one container before you start the wall.
