Description
This automotive masking tape is Blue Dolphin Washi-XF7: a thin washi paper tape with an acrylic adhesive, made for car refinishing and auto-detailing. The roll is 37.1 mm wide and 40 m long. It lies ultra-flat, gives a sharp paint line and stands up to 140 °C for up to one hour. It sits with the masking and site tapes at Renders World.
What This Automotive Masking Tape Does
Automotive masking tape is judged by its edge. This masking tape is built to lie flat and give an ideal paint line, then come away cleanly.
- Washi paper backing. The backing is washi paper, 80 µm thick, so the tape stays flat on the panel.
- Acrylic adhesive. Strong, with high adhesion, and clean, easy removal.
- Heat for the booth. It is rated from -10 °C to +80 °C over 60 days, and 140 °C for up to one hour.
- Strong backing. Tensile strength is 80 N per 2.5 cm.
- Orange colour. The tape is orange.
Where to Use It
Blue Dolphin lists these uses for this automotive masking tape:
- Painting and car refinishing, including auto-detailing work.
- Lacquered surfaces.
- Glass, plastic and metal.
The tape is most often laid on a surface that is already painted or primed. Long use on solvent-based lacquers and on oiled surfaces is not recommended.
For render, brick and other rough surfaces, take the orange rendering tape. For decorating jobs, see the blue masking tape 48 mm.
How to Get a Clean Line
- Prepare the surface. It must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil, detergent and other dirt.
- Apply in the right temperature. Lay the tape at +18 °C to +25 °C.
- Test first. With any automotive masking tape, clean removal depends on the surface, the weather (temperature, sun and humidity) and the paint, so try a short length before taping a whole panel.
- Remove at the right time. Take the tape off as soon as the paint has dried, slowly and at 45°.
