Description

This Blue Dolphin blue masking tape is a painter's tape for clean colour lines on smooth surfaces, inside and outside: skirting, window and door frames, sockets, switches and narrow profiles. It can stay on for up to 30 days and still come away without adhesive, and it resists UV. The roll is 48 mm wide and 50 m long. It is one of the masking tapes in the Renders World tape range.

What You Get With This Blue Masking Tape

  • Sharp paint lines. Paint does not creep under the edge, so the line between two colours stays clean.
  • No adhesive left behind. It sticks well to many surfaces and comes off easily, without marks of glue.
  • Up to 30 days on the surface. Blue Dolphin makes it for long jobs: it can stay in place for 30 days and still come off cleanly.
  • Inside and outside. It is UV resistant and made for use both indoors and outdoors.
  • Solvent-free adhesive. The adhesive is a specially modified synthetic rubber with no solvents in it.
  • Crepe paper backing in Blue Dolphin's Special Blue.

Other Widths of the Same Tape

Renders World stocks this Blue Dolphin tape in 25, 30, 38 and 48 mm widths, all on 50 m rolls. The tape itself is the same in every width; only the strip changes.

Width Roll
25 mm roll 25 mm x 50 m
30 mm roll 30 mm x 50 m
38 mm roll 38 mm x 50 m
48 mm (this roll) 48 mm x 50 m

Pick the width by the edge you protect: the tape should cover the strip of frame or skirting next to the paint line.

How to Use It

  1. Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of grease, oil and detergent. Porous walls such as plaster should be sound, with old coatings removed, and primed.
  2. Lay the tape within the application temperature Blue Dolphin gives: +18 to +25 °C.
  3. Press the edge down along its whole run before you paint.
  4. Take it off as soon as the paint has dried, pulling slowly back at 45°.

Blue Dolphin asks for a trial first: how cleanly the tape comes off depends on the surface, the weather (temperature, sun and humidity) and the paint used. Most often the tape goes onto a painted or primed surface.

Where It Goes

  • Painting walls — the line where one colour meets the next.
  • Lacquered or varnished woodwork — doors, frames and trims.
  • Skirting and floor profiles.
  • Glass, plastic and metal — window panes, frames, hinges and fittings.

This blue masking tape is made for smooth surfaces. On rough render, brick or stone, use the orange render tape, made for rough facades. It is not for live electrical parts or for joining or stiffening damaged, moving or load-bearing elements.

Storage and Safety

  • Storage — in the original pack, somewhere cool and dry (no more than 21 °C and 50 % humidity) and out of direct sun.
  • Shelf life — use it within 12 months of dispatch.
  • Safety — the tape is flammable and single-use, made for trained, professional use; keep it away from open flame and heat.
  • Disposal — with mixed waste.

FAQ

What is blue masking tape used for?

Blue masking tape protects the edges you do not want painted — skirting, frames, sockets, switches and glass — and gives a clean line between two colours, inside or outside.

How long can it stay on?

Up to 30 days. Blue Dolphin makes it for long jobs and it still comes off cleanly, without adhesive left behind.

Can I use it outside?

Yes. This blue masking tape is UV resistant and made for both indoor and outdoor work on smooth surfaces such as frames, glass, plastic and metal.

When should I take it off?

As soon as the paint has dried. Pull it slowly back at 45°, so the edge stays sharp.

Will it hold on rough render or brick?

It is made for smooth surfaces. For rough render, brick and stone, Renders World stocks the orange render tape.

What temperature does it need?

Blue Dolphin gives +18 to +25 °C for laying the tape; once on, it works from −10 to +60 °C.
