Description

This red pipe insulation is a 10 m roll of closed-cell polyethylene foam lagging in the 16–18 mm size, covered with an extra layer of mesh polyethylene. It keeps heat in hot water and central heating pipes, and it handles temperatures up to +95 °C. It sits with the underfloor heating pipes at Renders World.

What Red Pipe Insulation Does

Bare hot pipes lose heat on the way to the tap or radiator. A foam sleeve around them keeps that heat in the water for longer.

  • Closed-cell foam. The polyethylene is foamed with gas into closed cells, which is what makes it an insulator.
  • Coated outer layer. An extra skin of mesh polyethylene covers the foam.
  • Low heat flow. Thermal conductivity is about 0.036 W/mK.
  • Wide temperature range. It is rated from -65 °C to +95 °C, and shrinks lengthwise by less than 1.65 % at 95 °C.
  • Red for hot runs. The same lagging comes in blue, so flow and return, or hot and cold, can be told apart at a glance.

Where to Use It

Fit red pipe insulation on the hot side of the system:

  • Hot water pipes running to and from the cylinder.
  • Pipes running from the boiler.
  • Central heating pipes.
  • Hot water pipes under sinks and behind bath panels.

Measure the outside diameter of your pipe before ordering and match it to the 16–18 mm size. For cold runs, or to mark the return side, use the blue pipe insulation in the same size.
