Description

This blue pipe insulation is closed-cell polyethylene foam lagging in the 16–18 mm size, supplied as a 10 m roll and finished with an outer skin of mesh polyethylene. It is the blue twin of our red lagging, so two runs of pipe can be told apart by colour, and it sits in the underfloor heating pipes range at Renders World.

Why Blue Pipe Insulation

Colour does the labelling for you. Once pipes disappear behind a bath panel or under a floor, blue pipe insulation on one run and red on the other shows straight away which is which.

  • Pair it with red. The red pipe insulation is the same lagging, size and roll length, so one run can be wrapped in each colour, for example blue on the return and red on the flow.
  • Foam that traps air. The polyethylene is expanded with gas into sealed cells, and that is what slows the heat.
  • Coated outer face. A mesh polyethylene layer is bonded over the foam.
  • Cold and hot. The foam is rated from -65 °C up to +95 °C.
  • Holds its length. At 95 °C it shrinks lengthwise by less than 1.65 %.

Which Pipes It Suits

The supplier lists four places for this lagging:

  • hot water pipes to and from the cylinder;
  • pipes leaving the boiler;
  • central heating pipework;
  • hot water pipes beneath sinks and behind bath panels.

Check the size before you order blue pipe insulation. Take the outside diameter of the pipe you are covering and make sure it falls within 16–18 mm; if it does not, this roll is the wrong size.

FAQ

What is the difference between the blue and the red?

Only the colour. Both are the same 16–18 mm foam lagging in a 10 m roll, so you can mark two runs differently.

Will it fit my pipe?

Measure the outside of the pipe. If it is between 16 and 18 mm, this size is the right one.

How many rolls do I need?

One roll for every 10 m of pipe you want covered, rounded up.

Can it go on a central heating pipe?

Yes. Central heating pipework is one of the uses the supplier lists, and the foam is rated to +95 °C.

What is the outside of the lagging made of?

A mesh polyethylene layer bonded over the closed-cell foam.
