Description
This white sanitary silicone is Atlas Silton S in colour 001: a one-component silicone sealant with an acetate cure, in a 280 ml cartridge. It seals the joints where tiles meet baths, shower trays, basins, toilets, worktops and sinks, inside and outside, in joints 4 to 25 mm wide. It sits with the grouts and sealants for tiles at Renders World.
What the White Sanitary Silicone Does
Silton S stays elastic for its whole service life and cures without shrinking, so the joint keeps moving with the bath, tray or board beside it.
- Lasting white. The silicone resists UV light, ageing and cleaning agents.
- Smooth finish. The maker describes the cured surface as perfectly smooth.
- Heat and cold. Once cured it takes -50 °C to +180 °C.
- Matched to the grout. It comes in 27 colours that follow the Atlas grout colours, so silicone and grout form one colour set.
Where to Use It
Use this white sanitary silicone wherever white tiles meet a fitting or another surface.
- Bathrooms and kitchens. Around shower enclosures and trays, baths, basins, toilets, bathroom furniture, kitchen worktops and sinks.
- Tiled walls and floors. Inside and outside, on walls and floors, in dry, damp and wet rooms, on balconies and terraces, and over underfloor heating.
- Boards. Coverings on stable wood-based boards and plasterboard.
- Tiles and surfaces. Porcelain, clinker, ceramic and glass mosaic, glass blocks, sanitary ceramics, stainless steel, anodised aluminium and enamel.
- Natural stone. On absorbent stone such as travertine or sandstone, prime and make a trial joint first.
Do not use it for aquariums, for fixing mirrors, or for joints against PTFE, polyethylene, polypropylene, lead, zinc, copper or iron. For surfaces under chemical load, laboratories, industrial kitchens and laundries, and for steel or plastic substrates, Atlas recommends its elastic silicone, Silikon Sanitarny Elastyczny, instead.
How to Apply It
- Prepare. The joint must be dry and clean, free of dust and dirt. Mask the edges with tape from the tapes range.
- Cut and load. Cut the tube tip, refit the nozzle and cut it at an angle to the joint width, then load the cartridge into a sealant gun.
- Fill. Press the silicone in evenly and without breaks, with a slight excess. Deep joints take a polyurethane foam backer rod, so the silicone bonds only to the two sides.
- Tool within 5 minutes. Smooth it with a spatula wetted in water with a little soap or washing-up liquid, shaped so water runs off. Take the tape off straight after.
- Clean up. Wipe fresh smears with white spirit; once cured they only come off mechanically.
Apply the white sanitary silicone between +5 °C and +40 °C. At about 23 °C and 55 % humidity the joint takes light foot traffic after about 3 hours and full use after about 24 hours. Very absorbent tiles can stain, so try a small area first.
