Description
The Tile Rite gold threshold strip is a 900 mm doorway strip that joins two different floors where they meet at a door. It comes as a base plate, an aluminium top in a gold finish and two sizes of clip, and the clips let it take up a difference in floor height of up to 15 mm. It sits with the tile trims at Renders World.
What the Gold Threshold Strip Does
Where tiles meet another surface in a doorway, the two edges need covering and holding. A gold threshold strip does both: the base plate sits on the sub floor, and the gold top clips over it and grips each edge.
- Tile to tile and beyond. Tile Rite makes it for tiles to tiles, tiles to hardwood, laminate wood or carpet, and for laminate to laminate.
- Different heights. Two clip sizes give variable height adjustment up to 15 mm, so the top can bridge a step from one side to the other.
- Room to move. The strip allows for expansion on either side of the doorway.
- Aluminium top. The top is 6063-T5 aluminium with a gold finish.
- For indoor doorways. Tile Rite specifies it for indoor use.
How to Fit the Doorway Strip
- Prepare the sub floor. It must be clean, dry and level. Cut the base plate of the threshold strip to the width of the doorway.
- Fix the base plate first. Before laying the new floor, peel the protective tape off the base plate and press it firmly onto the sub floor, leaving a 10 mm gap to the existing floor. Do not let that gap exceed 10 mm.
- Lay the new surface. Lay your tiles, wood or laminate over the base plate, again leaving a 10 mm expansion gap up to its raised channel.
- Cut and clip the top. Cut the gold top to length with a hacksaw. Choose the clip size by the thickness of the new surface and the drop from one side to the other, then slide the clips into the socket under the top.
- Tap it home. Place the top over the base plate with the pips on its underside over the lower side, and tap it down until both edges are gripped. Tap gently so the gold face stays unmarked.
Fitting it between two tiled rooms? The tiles go down with one of the tile adhesives, and the joints are filled with a product from the grouts and silicones.
